Uber Eats becomes official flagship sponsor of Eintracht Spandau


More than 60% of the German population are gamers; video games are nowhere as popular in Europe as they are in Germany (GTAI 2022). Tournaments with professional esports teams are also very popular and already inspire an international audience of millions.

Uber Eats, the food delivery platform, wants to accompany this development in Germany and supports the Eintracht Spandau team as the official flagship sponsor for the current season in the LEC Summer Split.

Eintracht Spandau was only founded at the end of 2021 by gaming influencer Maximilian Knabe (“HandOfBlood”), one of the most well-known and wide-reaching German gaming influencers with over 2.4 million YouTube followers.

The team competes in the game League of Legends, one of the most popular video games worldwide, in the Prime League – the top league in Germany. In the Spring Split earlier this year, the German team surprisingly qualified for the EU Masters 2022.

As the official flagship sponsor, the Uber Eats logo now adorns the coveted chest area of the official Eintracht Spandau jerseys and will be integrated on all digital channels of the team.

In addition, both partners will develop different content formats over the course of the season, which will activate the young, digital-oriented esports target group for Uber Eats in the entertaining fictional style of Eintracht Spandau.

The deal was brokered by marketing agency SPORTFIVE.

Friedrich Kabler, Uber Eats press officer in Germany said: “Eintracht Spandau has not only turned the German Prime League upside down with its performances, but with an unconventional and entertaining manner, with a huge fan base gathered behind them in a very short time.

“Together we want to make our growing offer in 27 cities with authentic content productions appealing to the esports community in Germany.”

“We firmly believe that with Eintracht Spandau, we are establishing a pioneer for the international esports industry with regard to content production.

“Johannes Gorzel, co-CEO of Eintracht Spandau and influencer marketing agency INSTINCT3, will also define new standards in terms of sporting infrastructure and regional ties. However, not every potential sponsor would be able to understand this vision – let alone fully endorse it.

“So we were glad that we noticed in the exchange with Uber Eats mediated by SPORTFIVE that we are not only shown understanding, but also trust. And that ultimately means for the community that we have the backing of a main sponsor who empowers us in our development to take bolder, bigger and more sustainable next steps.”

Eintracht Spandau is a newly formed team of INSTINCT3 and JvM NERD and has been competing in the German Prime League in League of Legends since January.

HandOfBlood is the face of the team and plays the most vocal role as president.
